Documentation of Kalikkam (Collyrium) Preparations in Vida Nilai (Toxic State) Prescribed in Selected Classical Siddha Literature

ABSTRACT
Siddha system is one of the traditional systems of medicine in India. In Siddha, toxicology is a branch which deals with fatal dose, fatal period of toxic substances or toxins and how the toxins affect the human body and also provided the Internal and External treatment methods. Siddha Medicine treats a wide range of toxins ranging from Plant bio toxins to animal bio toxins. Kalikkam (Collyrium) which is one among the 32 external therapies mentioned in Siddha literatures is administered in various illness and toxic condition. In this study Kalikkam (Collyrium) preparations from various Siddha classical literatures were piled for various toxic states such as Snake bite, Rat bite, Scorpion sting and Dog bite etc. The number of herbal and herbo mineral preparations were listed. The repeated preparations from various Siddha literatures were tabulated. The most frequently used Solvents, Metals, Minerals, Plants and Most frequently prescribed Vida nilaigal were identified and mentioned.
